TATA FRENKEL

Performative lecture “Piece of Cake”

piece of unseen art (piece of education, a piece for you)

I suggest following the narratives of this performative lecture (or simply, performance) with eyes and ears. Artist’s (mine…) practice builds on a term “Unseen Arts”, so you can expect that all action is going to be based on it, and you can experience during the performance what these unseen arts are. The visuals of diagrams and maps (that I’ll show) all together with storytelling will form a recipe (a method) on how to leave yourself alone, how to express heaviness, how to speak in difficult times, what is apathy, what are these unseen arts, and what about this cake and this english idiom. Anyway.

Duration: 17min, will be on loop the whole evening

Location: Foyer

Newton’s third law states that when two bodies interact, they apply forces to one another that are equal in magnitude and opposite in direction.

Our bodies are not only carriers of spirit/soul/energy or any other living entity that you believe in. Also our bodies are not only complex biological mechanisms. They live and exist in correspondence to other bodies, objects, environments, cultures, sounds, smells, actions etc. They always exist together with something – in a sort of a dialogue; they exist in space and time, in sound and smell. It is impossible to define or explain them, as well as to reduce to any form or norm; they are in a mode of perpetual change, they decay, wear themselves out and rejuvenate; they are born and die. They exist in flux and mutual dependency.

By citing gestures of cheerleaders, musical films and military foot drills, the group of performers move through the city and shape a synchronised uniform body that creates mobile group sculptures as a response to the environment it is moving through.

Performers: Aleksandra Andrejauskaitė, Gabrielė Bagdonaitė, Viktoras Fedorenko, Alina Pilecka, Juozas Veiverys. Camera: Gvidas Bindokas

––––IRRITATED HOSPITALITY ROOM

Location: Shower hall (II a)

This room accommodates two conflicting spaces – the lounge of the cultural centre Sodas 2123 and an improvised record store – that works according to the principles of an annoying neighbour who never turns down the volume of her experimental music. The room embodies the aesthetics of irritated hospitality – the by-product of the idea of smooth communal life and practical lack of patience.

Records played are recent releases from Lithuanian artists:

–– Techniseptic – Techniseptic

–– Gana2 – A ! 004 // Fata For Gana

Other artists will be confirmed throughout the week.
