Martin Born

2023-08-16

Martin Born grew up in late-postwar West Germany, studied in the Netherlands, and since 2012 lives in Helsinki, Finland. Having begun his path as a graphic designer before moving to the more spatial realms, Martin’s first working focus became the co-organisation of common workshop spaces in unused real estate and the exploration of the counter-capitalist modes operation that they afford. Since 2017 Martin’s practice has been focused on the curating of spatial practice research residencies, among others in partnership with the Helsinki International Artist Programme – HIAP, Strelka Institute, Iaspis, the British Council, Design Museum Helsinki, and the Paimio Sanatorium Foundation.

During the residency at SODAS 2123 Martin will work on his research on experimental organisation that he conducts as part of his current curatorial and sustainability studies at Aalto University, Helsinki.

This residency is organized with Architektūros Fondas.

SODAS 2123 activities are supported by Lithuanian Council for Culture and Vilnius city municipality.

The residency is funded by the Nordic Council of Ministers’ Nordic-Baltic Mobility Programme for Culture.
