What could be an interesting and loved public space for the citizens? How can culture and artistic practices help to rediscover the potential of existing public spaces and buildings?

Squares, parks and courtyards in the city can be places where different interest groups – local communities, developers, self-government, businesses and organizations – are involved in the revitalization. Their creative revitalization can help reveal the uniqueness of places, the identity of institutions and communities, and turn them into important urban resources.

We invite you to the first discussion ‘Creative placemaking‘ of the series of events ‘Culture Garden’ organized by the Lithuanian Interdisciplinary Artists’ Association (LIAA) and ‘Architektūros fondas’. The event will be held in the cultural centre SODAS 2123, which starts the summer season and opens its yard. This event will give context to the ‘ūmėdė’ festival, the x⬳disciplinary symposium for emerging art & related matters, which will start the next day.

The conversation between representatives of different public institutions, urban researchers, artists and architects will ask: how can different organizations contribute to their own and the city’s vitality by creatively creating and opening up their public outdoor spaces?

𝗣𝗥𝗢𝗚𝗥𝗔𝗠𝗠𝗘 ＯＯ Ｏ ＯＯ ＯＯＯ

Two projects will be presented at the event – the Jazdów City Garden and the SODAS 2123 sculpture garden itself, in which the discussion will take place. The project of the Jazdów City Garden will be presented by ANNA CZABAN, curator at the Ujazdowski Castle Centre for Contemporary Art in Warsaw, and the SODAS 2123 sculpture garden will be presented by curator art critic, writer and chairwoman of LIAA council DANUTĖ GAMBICKAITĖ and member of LIAA, media artist, art critic and curator, one of SODAS 2123 initiators, art director and co-curator of symposium ‘ūmėdė’ VYTAUTAS MICHELKEVIČIUS. Parallels will be sought in the discussion, and the discourse will be expanded and supplemented by artist, philosopher, cultural theorist and cultural policy expert ARŪNAS GELŪNAS.
