On Saturday, 9 December ,5 p.m. Cultural Complex SODAS2123 (Vitebsko g. 23, Vilnius) invites you to an artist talk by Elena Narbutaitė: “Some thoughts about food and context, or just the music in lieu of words”.
During approximately 45 improvised minutes, E. Narbutaitė will share her thoughts – written down quickly, written in progress, appearing on site, while reading. They emerge in, but do not necessarily stay with the theme of food and nutrition, traveling through different territories on soil or on our mind. If there is not much – or any – desire to talk, we will listen to music together with the artist. It is sometimes more eloquent than words.
With this event, SODAS 2123 completes the series of events curated by Monika Kalinauskaitė, dedicated to the “shadow” side of food culture – the principles of its organization and articulation that go beyond the boundaries of flavors and textures. Via artistic means, the cycle explored possible non-consumerist relationships with nutrition and the effects of materials entering our bodies and communities. In the series of free-form lectures, visitors were invited to collectively rethink the predictions of the future of humanity, to look for ways not only to grow and produce, but also to accumulate and store, to prepare each other for the long winter, to expand the possibilities of sensory knowledge.
Elena Narbutaitė (b. 1984 in Vilnius) actively participates in international exhibitions, such as the Liverpool Biennial in 2016 and the joint Lithuanian and Cyprus pavilion at the Venice Biennale in 2013. Among her recent group exhibitions are the 5th Baltic Triennial event – a one-day prologue at the Lithuanian National Drama Theater in Vilnius in 2023, “Mars Returns” at M. Žilinskas Art Gallery in Kaunas in 2022, “Prompt” at the Gianni Manhattan Gallery in Vienna in 2022. She has collaborated on issues of Federal, Nero, and CAC Interview magazines, as well as various other initiatives, and is the co-editor of Bill magazine initiated by Julie Peeters.
