UNISONA x exhibition "i’m not sure of myself but i will dance anyways or maybe it’s better to hide in a dungeon"

2024-04-01

On 9 April at 7 pm, the exhibition i’m not sure of myself but i will dance anyways or maybe it’s better to hide in a dungeon featuring young contemporary artists Ainė Petkūnaitė, Augustynas Sinkevič and Violeta Tvorogal will open at the Entity Space (Vitebsko str. 21, Vilnius), located within the SODAS 2123 Cultural Centre.

The exhibition showcases a trio of young-generation creators, coming together as both artists and curators. This way, the exhibition is presented as a living, changing organism whose shape and components are directly dependent on the configuration of the artworks and the creators’ own whims and doubts. Acting as if against their will, as if pushed by a higher power, the artists try to free themselves from the suffocating necessity of creation by either making use of it or rejecting it. Everything is being contemplated through juxtaposing the labyrinths of imagination with a dungeon, inviting the audience to dive into the exhibition as a space that is ‘conducive to an ambiguous existence in-between the real and the unreal’. Illusions, haunting, unpredictabilities, confusion, intuition…

About the artists:

Ainė Petkūnaitė (人魚) is a visual, sound and movement artist based in Vilnius, Lithuania. She is interested in the relationship between subject and its environment, intercorporeality, undefined plastic structures, memory and the immateriality of matter. Using an archaeological strategy, the artist collects (un)defined materials, modelling various speculative and erotic stories about them.

Augustynas Sinkevič is a young-generation visual artist, currently studying photography and media art at the Vilnius Academy of Arts. Observing the environment around him and everyday life, he takes photos, makes films, writes and draws, accumulating it all. The artist is interested in things that are hard to name or cannot be named at all, such as intuitions, imagination, alternative realities, coincidences, and the possibility of a different existential experience provided by the creative process.

Violeta Tvorogal is an animator and interdisciplinary artist currently based in Vilnius. She is studying at the Vilnius Academy of Arts, specialising in 2D and 3D animation. The artist also experiments with sculpture and object art.

The exhibition opening will take place on 9 April 2024, at 7 pm., starting with a performance titled To Take a Bath Together by Ainė Petkūnaitė (人魚).

Exhibition dates and times: 9 April–21 April 2024, Wednesdays to Fridays 4–7pm, Saturdays and Sundays 1–6 pm.
