Stella Massa, also known as ShyStella, is a Finnish-Karelian artist working across music, performance, and writing, blending different music genres like: trap, rap, hyperpop, folk, spoken word, and Karelian runesinging. Rooted in grassroots activism and self-organized cultural work, their multidisciplinary practice adapts to different environments, moving between performance art contexts, festivals, and various media while emphasizing collective processes and shared voice. Their work engages with cultural memory, language, land, and belonging through a contemporary Karelian lens.
During the residency, Stella will develop a practice-led project that explores how individual music-making can unfold into collective singing. Drawing from Karelian runesinging, multilingual vocal expression, and archival sonic material, Stella will investigate sound as a space for resistance, healing, and shared presence.

Resistance Song Residency explores the political, social, and affective dimensions of song, examining how collective singing can foster solidarity, healing, and shared ritual. The summer cycle of the residency is curated by Jūra Elena Šedytė.
