Sophie Wohlgemuth explores the themes of embodiment, care work, agency, community, and collective knowledge. To engage with these concepts step by step, she uses long-format endurance work with objects and her own body, experimental collaboration, and the element of repetition.
Since 2023, Sophie has been developing the ongoing sourdough performance series Caring Is Scary, which addresses the identity-forming aspects of care work. Driven by shared insights and experiences, she is part of various collectives, such as #purplenoise, In The Middle Of Nowhere, wohlgemuth & thöricht, and SHOW. Sophie works as a curator and cultural mediator at ArTik e. V. in Freiburg im Breisgau, Germany. She has also been Artist in Residence in Lower Austria in 2023.
