The OVEN PAVILION is an architectural intervention created in 2024 by artist Kamilė Krasauskaitė together with architects Ona Lozuraitytė and Petras Išora in the SODAS 2123 courtyard, designed for community gatherings, education, events, and other cultural activities. The OVEN PAVILION consists of an oven enclosed by an architectural structure built for active, meaningful outdoor leisure and for events and gatherings initiated by different communities and cultural practitioners. Every summer season, the OVEN PAVILION opens with a new programme of events dedicated to the synergy between food and art.
Food is one of the most essential themes of everyday life, and yet it is rarely discussed or examined in any depth. For this reason, the events programme of the OVEN PAVILION becomes a foundation for substantive discussion and analysis of food-related phenomena, reconsidering food systems in their close relationship to human and animal health, land, water, climate, biodiversity, economics, community life, and psychology. The OVEN PAVILION activities aim to reveal the many meanings and functions food holds in daily life, as well as the visible and invisible impact of our individual and collective choices on the environment.
The programme brings together both international food practitioners and local ones, with content ranging from communal bread-making – approaching bread as material, memory, and a form of togetherness – to apple pie baking paired with educational workshops on creating one’s own recipe book.
