Skin of Earth. Exhibition by Austėja Jančauskaitė

“Skin of Earth” is a sculptural installation composed of objects grown from mycelium leather – a living material cultivated from fungal root networks. This is not merely an alternative to conventional materials; mycelium is a living network of energy and information, connecting natural systems like a biologically integrated internet.

These underground fungal systems actively transmit signals, exchange nutrients, and maintain communication between ecosystems, functioning as a natural communication network that operates across space and time.

In this exhibition, mycelium serves not only as a material but also as a concept a symbol of connection and collaboration, inviting us to rethink our relationship with the Earth, with processes of making, and with one another.

The objects are not manufactured they are grown. The process is only partially controlled, and the result is a unique, living organism that breathes, evolves, and transforms. This impermanence is not a weakness, but rather the essence of a new design approach one that embraces transformation as an innovative creative element.

Created in collaboration with Nunoko lighting designers and scientist Izabelė Šuikaitė.

The works are crafted from mycelium leather a living, biodegradable material grown from fungal root networks.

Opening night soundscapes will be curated by the @ryo_ishimoto & @mailsaslt, whose live sets will echo the organic logic of mycelial growth – pulsating, connecting, and evolving with the space.
