OVEN PAVILION 🥨 MILK DRINKNNER

2024-10-14

On Wednesday, 16 October, at 6pm, the OVEN PAVILION at SODAS 2123 cultural complex invites everyone to a Milk Drinknner, organised by Andrius Rugys 🥨

A Milk Drinknner is a dinner in liquid form, to be sipped rather than eaten. Milk, one of the greatest of all foods, offers a world of possibilities. We’ll prepare a milk-based drink, discuss the pros and cons of consuming milk, reflect on who cows actually are, and watch video footage of cows from various regions of India. The event will feature drinks made exclusively ahimsa milk, sourced non-violently from cows that have been lovingly cared for throughout their lives. For vegans, a specially prepared tea will be available, and there will likely be buns to taste, including vegan options.

Andrius Rugys, an alumnus of the Vilnius Academy of Arts’ Department of Photography and Media Art, is a former lecturer and initiator in the field of sound art. His key creative focus is collecting and presenting outdoor sound recordings in live performances and installations, such as the living sound museum Garso Korys (Sound Honeycomb). Currently living between Lithuania and India, Rugys practices bhakti yoga and explores the legacy of Vedic culture. Alongside his spiritual journey, he documents the endangered cow family and examines the issues surrounding them. He has already dedicated several interdisciplinary exhibitions and a national conference to these activities.

Rugys’ interest in the creative aspects of food began with the Contemporary Art Centre’s TV dinners, organised by artist Raimundas Malašauskas. He later organised a series of Workshow events, including a dinner made from ingredients brought by the attendees. Thanks to the culinary discoveries of traveller and video documentarian Gvidas Koveira in Vedic cuisine, Rugys developed a passion for the long tradition of lacto-vegetarian cooking and the art of spice selection. He has organised kitchens and cooked for various seminars and creative camps, notably the Creative Symposia for the Study of Baltic Culture, organised by Žilvinas Danys. In recent years, he has volunteered at the Govardhan Eco-village near Mumbai, where over 2,000 meals are prepared daily for charity.

➡️ The event is free of charge and open to all visitors.

The event is part of the Oven Pavilion’s public events programme, organised through an open call.

Oven Pavilion, Cultural Complex SODAS 2123, Vitebsko Str. 21, Vilnius

The Oven Pavilion is an interactive architectural sculpture, serving as a public space for community gatherings, education, events, and other activities. This work is a collaboration between interdisciplinary artist Kamilė Krasauskaitė and architects Ona Lozuraitytė and Petras Išora. The structure harmoniously combines the ideas of the three creators, functionality, and the surrounding environment – integrating the oven, the architects’ pavilion around it, and the space it occupies. This project, part of the Vilnius City Municipality’s Create Vilnius (Kuriu Vilnių) programme, reflects the needs of the local communities, creating a new focal point in the city that activates and enhances public space.
