Oscar Mathieu le Bussy

Please meet our resident, a TRANSdisciplinary art worker from Brussels, Oscar Mathieu le Bussy.

Oscar’s resolutely transdisciplinary practice includes text, performance, tattoo, drawing, translation, research, self-organisation and transfaggotry. Through a cross-exploration of these mediums and materials, he engages with themes of queer desire, loneliness and the transformative aspects of body-modification.

Oscar graduated from the Ecole de Recherche Graphique (Brussels) with a MA in Installation and Performance. Since then, he’s worked across different artistic fields and their institutions, including Centre Wallonie-Bruxelles (Paris), a.pass, Kaaitheater, La Bellone, INSAS (Brussels), BUDA Kunstcentrum (Kortrijk), De Studio (Antwerpen), AMOQA (Athens).

At SODAS2123, he’ll develop Largest Organ Speaks To Me Softly, a skin-centered research around tattoos and transitions as gestures that score flesh into a site of artistic friction. Largest Organ Speaks To Me Softly originates from a personal and specific point, and takes an unexplored angle on matters that concern many: the relation to one’s ever-changing body and the possibility of self-creation.

The activities of SODAS 2123 are financed by the Lithuanian Council for Culture and Vilnius city municipality.
