Kristin Wiking

2024-12-16

Kristin Wiking is a conceptual artist whose work revolves around humor, confusion, misfortunes, and misunderstandings. Her creative process is rooted in a simple, immediate, and direct approach, allowing unexpected results to emerge naturally.

During her residency at Sodas2123, she will experiment with the interplay between words and objects, aiming to strip them of their “normal” meanings. Through these explorations, she seeks to imbue objects with a sense of ontological presence beyond their practical functions. Expect to find holes where none existed before, a heightened sensitivity to the movement of air, or a profound gaze emanating from a mirror.

Kristin Wiking, based in Helsinki and born in Sweden, works with a range of media including kinetic sculpture, installation and video. She is currently working on exhibitions in Helsinki and Berlin. She has recently had solo exhibitions at Billytown (2024) in The Netherlands, in Finland at Galleri Sculptor, Helsinki (2022); Borgå Konsthall, Borgå (2021); Titanic Gallery, Turku (2020); Galleri Sinne, Helsinki (2017). Her works have been shown at group exhibitions in Finland, Belgium, Sweden, Germany, the Netherlands, Poland and Great Britain. During 2022-2023 she was artist-in-residence at the Jan van Eyck Academie, Maastricht, The Netherlands.

The activities of SODAS 2123 are supported by the Lithuanian Council for Culture and Vilnius city municipality.
