Helena Pulkkinen – a participant in the Resistance Song Residency. Helena is a Helsinki based artist working with sound, spaces, and sculpture-objects through installation, performance and sound releases. Attention to everyday materials and fragments as both intimate and collective is central to their practice, and their work engages with the potentials of alternative emotions and resistance embedded within structures and situations. Pulkkinen received an MFA in Sculpture from the Academy of Fine Arts Helsinki in 2025.
During their residency at SODAS 2123, Pulkkinen will be forming the basis for a new body of work, focusing on research and experimentation with vocals, speech sounds and musical fragments as carriers of meaning, emotion and resistance.
Resistance Song Residency explores the political, social, and affective dimensions of song, examining how collective singing can foster solidarity, healing, and shared ritual. The spring cycle of the residency is curated by Vaida Stepanovaitė.
Resistance Song Residency is funded by the Nordic Council of Ministers’ Nordic-Baltic Mobility Programme for Culture.
SODAS 2123 activities are supported by the Lithuanian Council for Culture and Vilnius city municipality.
