On Monday, 6 January at 13:00 in the project space of the cultural complex SODAS 2123 (Vitebsko g. 23, 2nd floor, Vilnius), the group exhibition “Estimated Error” invites you to the last guided tour with the curators of the exhibition and the participants.
The exhibition “Estimated Error” invites a critical reflection on the intersections between the artistic field, soft materials, and everyday life. The title encapsulates the notions of error, inaccuracy, and uncertainty—concepts that resonate both within the art world and broader social processes. Simultaneously, it opens a dialogue on the hierarchies and power structures that shape our daily experiences.
Textile art frequently contends with deeply ingrained stereotypes, tied to notions of mass production, excess, domesticity, craftsmanship, and static traditions. These assumptions can dominate perceptions, obscuring the nuanced dialogues that artworks invite and restricting opportunities for a deeper engagement with their meanings.
This exhibition foregrounds the work of emerging artists who explore the multifaceted nature of textiles, embracing their complex cultural and material narratives. By examining both the medium’s positive and negative associations, the artists address critical contemporary themes: the psychological toll of anxiety, the realities of war and defense, the pervasive influence of social media, and the shifting value of art as it evolves into heritage. Through their practices, they also emphasize the enduring relevance of community and collective experience, reimagining textiles as a medium for dynamic cultural and political commentary.
Error serves as a space for reimagining textile art, challenging preconceived notions, and unveiling the medium’s potential to navigate complex and urgent cultural dialogues.
