Introducing Cillian Johnson, a visual artist from Dublin, residing with us this November.
The artist recently graduated from Trinity College Dublin with a BA in History of Art and Architecture, with a particular interest in semiotics, art ecology and the practical application of theory. Through earlier paintings and drawings, Johnson was interested in the creation and depiction in illusory space. This has developed into a fascination with ‘real’ physical space, explored through sculpture and installation; a finite space that experiences the full sensory effects of and changes in time, pressure and gravity.
During his time at SODAS 2123, he will continue to develop and research an approach to sonic visualisation that maps the dimensions of a spectrogram to reconstruct moments from the surrounding urban and natural landscape. Combining research in neuroarchitecture with the more emotionally-driven methods of psychogeography, the goal is to produce an audiovisual work based on the sound of SODAS and Vilnius that would demonstrate the progress of this method at the end of the residency.
The activities of SODAS 2123 are financed by the Lithuanian Council for Culture and Vilnius city municipality.
