“Strategies of Experimentation” led by composer Vladas Dieninis | BLOSSOM

“Strategies of Experimentation”
On October 1st, 2 p.m. In the FAMM space, at the cultural complex SODAS 2123, the theoretical and practical sound art seminar “Strategies of Experimentation” will be held, led by composer Vladas Dieninis.

“You don’t have to obey!”
This was the message of the manifest-writing pioneers of free jazz to the musicians’ guild. To the guardians of tradition, such turns of thought seemed dangerous and destructive, but it gathered renegades, freethinkers and innovators.

How to cancel the traditional contract between the audience and the performer?
Can the form of a concert evolve and transform?
How will the development of technology change the forms of music performance?
What relationships of sounds are possible outside the definition of music?
What is the fate of the concept of the “artist”?

These are just some of the questions that eventually filled the space of sound experiments and activated the stimulus of more than one generation to search for new forms.
In this workshop we will explore the history of “sound reformers” from Luigi Russolo and his noise manifesto, the emergence of John Cage’s concept of silent concerts, the thought experiments of Pauline Olivera to the works of contemporary sound artists.
In the second part of the seminar, we will hear Alanas Gurina’s performative electroacoustic performance using a prepared skateboard, a modified treadmill and other objects.
We will talk with the artist, get acquainted with the author’s ideas and technological aspects of his work, and we will be able to try playing with objects ourselves, looking for authentic ways of performance.

The seminar is led by:
Vladas Dieninis is a composer, performer and educator who creates music for contemporary dance and theater performances and collaborates with creators of interdisciplinary art. Lecturer of educational sound art seminars “Sound Architecture”, “Strategies of Experimentation”, “The Background of Seeing” and “Soundscapes”.
Alanas Gurinas is a sound artist who uses ready-made objects in his work and combines them with self-made instruments. During the creative process, he actively follows and listens to new sounds that appear through interaction and manipulates them, creating sequences of endless transformation.
