New series of educational workshops Blossom by the cultural space FAMM and SODAS 2123

From the beginning of August the cultural space FAMM together with the cultural centre SODAS 2123 presents the new educational project Blossom. It will offer a series of creative educational workshops with guided tours, a seminar and a performance. Two workshops will be held on the first week of August – on the 5th and the 7th, with the rest of the activities continuing until the end of the year with a total of 20 free educational events planned.

FAMM Space is an evolving cultural space that aims to foster creative interdisciplinary collaboration. It was opened in spring 2022 as a result of the successful ongoing cooperation between SODAS 2123 and Vilnius Academy of Arts. FAMM continues its educational mission via its programme, and the Blossom workshop aims to specifically target young people who have left school and have little participation in cultural activities. The workshop is open to everyone who might be interested.

The aim of the Blossom programme is to encourage unrestricted creative experimentation, to provide professional knowledge and artistic skills, and to foster habits of observation, exploration and self-reflection, leading to strengthening of one’s identity. It is curated by young people for young people, who are trying to understand for themselves what topics are most relevant today, what links between different disciplines are in need and what opportunities for self-fulfilment could be needed for young people.

This Friday, 5 August, the programme will start with the first workshop of the ANIMATEST series. This first workshop will give an insight into what animation is, what its principles and techniques are used by creators. Participants will try a wide range of techniques from traditional animation to animation in virtual reality. They will have an opportunity to find their own way of creating animation using different techniques. The overall aim of the workshop is to stimulate interest in the art of animation, to discover one’s own field and to find like-minded people.

On Sunday 7 August the second event in the programme will take place which will be an Introduction to Large Format Photography. It invites those interested in photography and its processes to visit Vytautas Juozėnas’ workshop, where participants will have the opportunity to get to know more about light and how to focus it on the photographic plane. Participants will learn about large format cameras, visit the experimental film/photography laboratory Sponge Studio, where they will try out different developing techniques and learn about photographic paper as a direct positive.

The programme will continue until December with workshops, seminars, guided tours and other events led by professionals of creative fields. Workshops on various themes will be presented by artists such as Kristina Švenčionytė and Greta Štiormer (directing/acting workshop), Ieva Ginkevičiūtė (dance/movement workshop), Agata Tracevič (SEED BOMB workshop), Arturas Bukauskas (workshop Virtual Reality. 360 Moving Image and 360 Spatial Narrative), Agnė Matulevičiūtė (workshop Music in the Interdisciplinary Field), Dominykas Digimas (listening workshop), Ignas Pavliukevičius (artificial intelligence workshop). The programme will also include two guided tours with the philosopher Vilius Dranseika Excursions in Botanical Philosophy and a seminar Strategies of Experiment by Vladas Dieninis as well as the performance by Alan Gurin. More information about the specific events will be available via SODAS 2123 and FAMM social media accounts and websites.

The project events will be presented by the FAMM team – workshop curators Dagnė Petkevičiūtė, Nidas Kaniušas and Fausta Mikutaitė. They are themselves representatives of the young generation of creators, who are inviting an open and friendly community, looking for new ways to create, experiment, learn and share their experience together.
