Workshop “Užgarsis: codes of music and sound” by composer Agnė Matulevičiūtė | BLOSSOM

The series of educational workshops of the cultural education project “Blossom” continues with the workshop “Užgarsis: codes of music and sound”, led by composer/sound artist Agnė Matulevičiūtė, taking place on October 28, at the FAMM cultural space, located at SODAS 2123

Agnė Matulevičiūtė’s range of practice includes contexts of media and interdisciplinary art, musical performances, theater, cinema, sound art and experimentation based on sonic expression. She is pursuing a PhD in art at the Lithuanian Academy of Music and Theater, where she is also conducting artistic research. She is attempting to establish a new term into the vocabulary of music and sound – “Užgarsis”, which is associated with conceptual music and its development processes. “Užgarsis” is a fundamentally new approach to sound media.

During this theoretical and practical workshop, the composer will share her knowledge of various sound and music conceptualization techniques, analyze examples of her own and others’ work. She will also explore how it is possible to take an interdisciplinary and conceptual approach to sound and how it is used to encode authors’ ideas, as well as the transformation of ideas that occurs during this process. In the practical part of the workshop, one will learn to see with sound.

Since 2014, A. Matulevičiūtė has regularly participated in group exhibitions, art and contemporary music festivals, and artist residencies in Lithuania and abroad. Her music written for cinema is internationally acclaimed and has been honored with the Silver Crane Award. She has also composed music for over 20 plays that have been performed in Lithuania’s largest theaters and has been nominated for the best music for theater. She continues to actively collaborate with artists from various fields, is the artistic director of the music festival “Music in a Space” and the organizer of the “Sirenos” club of the international theater festival.
