Group exhibition “Happily Whatever After” at Atletika gallery

A group exhibition titled Happily Whatever After will be opened at gallery Atletika on the 3rd March 2022 from 6 pm with a guided tour. (Vitebsko Str. 21, Vilnius). Works of artists Marta Frėjutė, Donatas Linkus and Andrius Ivanovas will be presented in this show, curated by Ieva Gražytė. The exhibition will be on view until 25th March.

Today happiness is becoming a theory of rational choice, with the happy ending motif repeated on a daily basis. The question is why is this happy ending not bringing any happiness to us and what would happen afterwards? What does happily ever after mean in the context of contemporary art? Happily Whatever After is a group exhibition of three artists – Marta Frėjutė, Donatas Linkus and Andrius Ivanovas, presented via the happy consciousness communication: ironic to do notes, a prop meadow, caressed by prop wind and toxic candy dyes. The exhibition does not intend to frighten with a supposed inherent sadness or to engage in sabotage against happiness. Rather, it proposes to be blithely happy in spite of the end. The happy consciousness believes that it is not the world that needs to change, but attitude.

Marta Frėjutė is currently studying for her PhD at the Vilnius Academy of Arts. Her work explores the relationship between reality and fiction in the historical field and in everyday life, and the fetishisation of techlonologies and scientific development.

Donatas Linkus works with mixed media, which is largely shaped by the disciplines of sculpture and architecture. Linkus uses props in his creative practice as a means to reflect the principles of creating contemporary reality.

Andrius Ivanovas received his BA and MA in contemporary sculpture from the Vilnius Academy of Arts. In 2015, he won the Baltic competition Young Painter Prize. Ivanovas’ artistic practice is closely related to the constant transformation of contemporary human identity, consumerist culture and the forms of intensity of present times.
